Symposium on Recycling of Spent Batteries

April 9–10, 2026 UM6P, Morocco

About the Symposium

The Symposium on Recycling of Spent Batteries will be held on April 9–10 at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), within the MSN Department. This scientific event will bring together researchers, industry experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss latest advances, major challenges, and emerging opportunities in battery recycling and circular economy strategies, with a particular focus on sustainable and scalable processes for recovery of critical raw materials.

The symposium will feature internationally recognized and leading speakers, who will share cutting-edge research, industrial feedback, and best practices across the battery value chain, from collection and pre-treatment to material recovery and regeneration.

By combining high-level keynote lectures, and networking opportunities, symposium aims to promote interdisciplinary exchange, strengthen academia–industry collaborations, and highlight innovative solutions to improve environmental and economic performance of battery recycling technologies, contributing to more resilient and sustainable battery supply chains.

Key Topics & Themes

• Hydrometallurgical recycling of Li-ion batteries

• Pyrometallurgical and thermal treatment routes

• Direct recycling / cathode regeneration and relithiation strategies

• Mechanical pretreatment and safe dismantling

• Recovery and purification of critical metals

• Electrolyte and binder removal / solvent-based delamination

• Environmental assessment & sustainability (LCA, techno-economic analysis, EHS aspects)

• Circular economy and industrial scale-up (pilot scale, integration, regulatory frameworks)

• Second-life batteries and end-of-life management strategies

• Other related topics relevant to the recycling of spent batteries
